So many finishes have toxic chemicals and metallic drying agents. Here are some widely-used non-toxic finishes.
- Beeswax and jojoba oil
- This is what I use on wooden spoons, cutting boards, and rolling pins. 2 parts jojoba oil and 1 part beeswax, melted in a double boiler.
- Beeswax and raw linseed
- Will leave a slightly yellow tint, but more durable than jojoba or soap, because linseed dries.
- Soap finish
