Fishing small streams in the winter

Tips from creekside_fly :

Try to go during the warmest part of the day if you can – mid to late afternoon. Look to target soft seams, tailouts and deeper pools. I prefer a dry dropper set up, something buggy up top with a smaller pheasant tail, hares ear, or zebra midge below.

Not much to it, finding open water is sometimes the hardest part. Fish a small streamer or nymphs and focus slower water! They’re usually still pretty active even in the cold water.
